Don’t let the June Gloom fool you, it’s Summer Time! All too soon the morning marine layer will be replaced with full hot sunny Southern California days, and cooling off at the pool will be a popular daytime activity. Playing in the water can be a lot of fun, but it’s important to remember that creating a safe environment in and around the water is very important. At Waterworks we take water safety seriously and we would like to share some simple and easy tips to help you keep your kids safer near the water.
- When at parties or with groups of friends and family it is easy to assume someone else is watching the children in the water. Always assign an adult “Water-Watcher” who is able to swim. You can rotate duties throughout the party, and designate the current “Water-Watcher” with a simple symbol such as a necklace or hat so that there is no confusion who is watching the children. Hiring a certified lifeguard is also a great way to make sure there is always a qualified and focused “Water-Watcher”
- Make sure children and Water-Watchers know the pool rules
- Do not rely on floatation devices; a child can easily slip out of them or even remove them
- Restrict diving to designated areas with sufficient depth, and make sure children are jumping away from the wall to prevent injury
- Stress proper pool behavior and limit horse play
- Learning to swim with a qualified instructor and maintaining these skills year round will give your children valuable lifelong skills
- No matter what your child’s swim level is, never treat your child as completely “water-safe.” This can cause a false sense of security and lack of supervision

Every month Waterworks likes to show appreciation to one Customer Service/Maintenance Team member and one Aquatic Team member who have performed above and beyond the call of duty. Team members are picked based on number of nominations received from their peers and reasons for these nominations.
For the month of May we extend a big Congratulations to Aquatic Staff Member Paul Jewett and Customer Service Member Cindy Heffron.
Fellow Waterworks Team members praised Paul and Cindy in their nominations by saying:
“Paul is always pleasant and friendly”
“Paul is always willing to take children during his breaks or at the last minute with no complaints”
“Paul has not been late or called out for the entire month”
“Cindy always says hello and is very pleasant when dealing with Instructors”
“Cindy is very courteous, smiles and asks how my day is going. She is a pleasure to work with.”
“Cindy goes above and beyond the call of duty when there are scheduling issues. She always notifies Instructors of schedule changes.”
Both Paul and Cindy are very valuable members of our team and we are proud to feature them this month. We hope you get a chance to check out their photos displayed in our lobby.

At Waterworks we appreciate the generosity of clients when they give thanks to our Instructors and Customer Service Representatives. Recently two of our Instructors Vanessa and Julianna received a very clever gift from one of their clients which really encompassed the skills that are taught during the lesson. The gift was so thoughtful and witty that we would like to share it with you. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
I am sure many of you have heard your child’s instructor repeat these phrases numerous times to your children!
On the cupcakes it says “Eyes Down” and “Kick Kick Kick”
On the cake shaped like a roll with the word “Over” represents “Roll Over”
