Looking for a way to get your child in a more competitive spirit?

Bring them to one of our Bi-Monthly Swim Competitions!

By age and gender, all students who are at least a level four are welcome to compete against those of similar level to prove how far they have come!

Competitions are held in our outdoor junior 25-yard, 8 lane pool and it is a BLAST.

There are EZ-UPs to shade everyone from the sun, chairs from which to watch the children race, and even an outdoor grill so you can physically see your hotdog, burger, or grilled chicken sandwich being made FRESH for lunch.

Students are able to start either from in the water, off the wall, or on one of our 6 diving blocks, so everyone is able to feel comfortable starting just as they want.

Is it your child’s first swim competition and they are a little nervous?

Not a problem! We have on-deck life supervisors that will be happy to jump into the water so everyone is at ease.

All who participate receive a ribbon for their race whether they place or not. The more ribbons, the closer your child will get to their first trophy!

Trophies will be awarded to swimmers that have received 15, 30, 50, 75, 125, 200, and 300 ribbons, which includes participation ribbons, placement ribbons (first, second, or third), and time improvement ribbons for those who beat their previous time from a past swim competition.

Feel free to either register online, in person, or over the phone.

For Waterworks Aquatics students, registration is a 5 dollar entry fee, plus 3 for every event.

For the public, registration is a 10 dollar entry fee, plus 3 for every event.

Waterworks Aquatics will have their Carlsbad, Irvine, Pasadena, and San Jose locations participate in this event as they attempt to help break the Guinness World RecordTM for the world’s largest swimming lesson.

The nation’s top water safety and training organizations are coming together as one to help present this global event. Participating in an event of this magnitude will help Waterworks Aquatics bring members of the community together in an effort to not only inform people of this statistic but also, to ultimately prevent people of all ages from drowning.”

10 Year Anniversary Extravaganza & Safety Day Recap

Waterworks Aquatics, a premier Swim School and Aquatic Center, hosted their 10 Year Anniversary and Water Safety Day event this past Sunday, June 1st. Waterworks Aquatics celebrated this event with a petting zoo, several large bounce houses, face painting, Disney Frozen princesses, balloon artists,  free swim, live music, carnival games, a dunk tank, and more! A mock drowning scenario was also organized by both Waterworks Aquatics and the Orange County Fire Department which helped show how important the skill of swimming truly is. The mock drowning was extremely impactful by the hundreds of spectators with the presence of 2 ambulances and a Fire Engine assisting.  “Drowning is a risk that can never be eliminated. It can be managed by having someone in charge at all times watching the swimmer, securing the fence and doors to the pool, taking swim lessons and by having the parents CPR certified” said owner, Jon Alpert.

Waterworks Aquatics was extremely happy to open their doors for the entire community as an estimated 1,000 people were in attendance for the event. In celebration, Waterworks Aquatics also raffled off a 10 lesson swim package to 1 lucky attendee. With being in business for over 10 years, Waterworks Aquatics wanted this celebration to be magical and special for all the families and friends that were in attendance. Owner, Jon Alpert said, “We wanted this event to be unlike anything else we have ever done and use our entire facility both inside and outside to accommodate all of the activities.”

As summer is approaching quickly, Waterworks Aquatics wanted this Anniversary Celebration and Water Safety Event to be the ultimate way to kick-off the summer. The event was an overall success in Waterworks Aquatics eyes as smiles were seen on everyone’s faces throughout the hot summer day.

Instructor Anthony Interview

C: Thank you for agreeing to meet with me, Anthony.

A: You’re welcome!

C: When did you originally start swimming?

A: I started swimming when I was pretty young. I think I might have been five-years-old when I first started taking swimming lessons.

C: Were you learning the strokes or were you doggie-paddling.

A: I was probably doggie-paddling more than anything to be honest.

C: Oh don’t worry, so was I. Did you ever swim competitively?

A: Because of a knee injury, I was never swam competitively, but I have never had an issue swimming.

C: Wow! Sorry to hear about your knee. Did you have a favorite stroke?

A: I liked freestyle, but not butterfly. That stroke is really difficult and requires a lot of energy.

C: I can only imagine. Do you teach our younger swimmers or older swimmers?

A: I actually teach both, from about 2 years of age to 13.

C: Do you have any advice for some of our younger swimmers that are scared to get into the water?

A: Yeah, definitely! I would tell them just to think of the pool as a HUGE bathtub because it really IS a huge bathtub. I’d ask them if they take baths, then to just imagine that they are taking a bath in the pool. I know it sounds silly, but it’s true.

C: That’s not silly, that’s genius. Do you have any hobbies outside of the water?

A: Well, I love to surf and that’s in the water, but outside of the water I like to play baseball and go snowboarding.

C: Nice, you like to stay active. What about videogames? Do you like videogames?

A: I do, but I don’t get a chance to play them that often. I like Call-of Duty.

C: What about your favorite food?

A: Carne Asada!

C: Yum! Your favorite Disney movie?

A: I love Tangled. Sometimes I watch my nieces and that is their favorite movie to watch with me.

C: That’s great! You must be great with children. Well, thank you so much for your time.

A: No problem!

Memorial Day Weekend!

Happy Memorial Weekend!

This long weekend is full of BBQs, beach days, and bonding – all things fun in the sun! Some of you even came in for lessons, so thank you! We love spending time with our customers, even on holidays.

During this time, we hope you are able to spend lots of time with family and friends eating good food and reminiscing about great Memorial Days past. We hope, too, that you take a moment to think of what this National Holiday is truly about: those fallen soldiers who gave their life for our freedom to spend this time with our loved ones. It is in their honor that, as a nation, we take Monday off from our normal duties to reflect on their service and remember what a blessing it is to get some fun in the sun.

This Monday, we are closing at 12 PM instead of our normal 8 PM time, so if you are scheduled for lessons after noon, they are postponed until next Monday. Instead maybe you can practice your skills in your neighborhood pool or go to a Memorial Day parade to support your local veterans!

Happy Memorial Day from Waterworks to you, and a special thank you to all of our soldiers, past and present.
