Electric Day!

Next Thursday May 29th is Electric Day at Waterworks in Irvine!

Our staff, instructors and office alike, will be dressing up in wonderfully bright neon outfits to liven it up at the pool! We would love to have you join us in our electric expressions, so wear your brightest swim suits and “scrunchies” – it’ll be a blast!

Need inspiration? Just think back to the early 90s with those neon shorts and Body Glove t-shirts and crazy electric pink scrunchy socks. There are many colors to choose from: Electric Yellow, Pink, Green, and Blue – even Neon Orange (Turbo’s favorite color)! Have fun with it, just please remember our dress code policies.

Even if you aren’t scheduled for your lessons that day, your kids can stop by for a recreational swim to show off their digs and check out their favorite instructor’s outfit. Parents can go for a lap swim too.

For more information on our Electric Day, Rec Swim, and Lap Swim please contact our facility @ (949) 450-0777 or visit our website

We look forward to seeing what you all come up with!

Happy Neon-ing!

Waterworks Aquatics Irvine Celebrates our Moms

May 12, 2014

May 11th, 2014

Everyone has a mother and we know they do so much, even when it goes unnoticed, so we wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU to all the moms out there.

For all the meals they’ve chopped up into tiny pieces, all the hours of sleep they’ve sacrificed on those early morning wake-up calls, and for all the love they give us unconditionally, moms truly are the best.

We even had moms bringing their kids in for lessons today! So we took some photos of them and their kids, which you can check out below.

Thanks Moms, Grandmas, and Aunties! We don’t know where we’d be without you! Have a relaxing and fun day full of LOVE. You’ve earned it!

Waterworks Aquatics Irvine: Instructor Mike D.

April 10, 2014

Instructor Mike D. Interview
Interviewed by: Chelsea A.

Q: Hello Mike! Thanks for agreeing to meet with me. So tell me, when did you first start swimming?

M: Mm, I started swimming when I was a little kid, but I never swam competitively.

Q: Even in high school?

M: Even in high school. I got my start competitive swimming here, but I always was a fan of the open water. I started swimming and surfing in open water when I was about six years old.

Q: Oh wow! So did you know your strokes before you were here?

M: I knew everything except butterfly. But now I do.

Q: Nice. Do you have a favorite stroke? Or did it change when you learned butterfly?

M: Actually, it’s funny. My favorite stroke used to be breaststroke because it was easier, but now that I know butterfly it became my favorite. The more I work at it, the more I my hips are stronger, the more my body knows the stroke and it is a lot easier.

Q: I can understand that! I’ve been trying to teach myself butterfly, but its hard stuff. Do you teach our younger swimmers or our older swimmers?

M: I teach just about everyone 2 1/2 up!

Q: That’s great, and such a wide range. Do you have any advice for swimmers that are terrified of getting started in the pool?

M: Definitely. The thing I always tell my students is that we have plenty of time, I want them to understand that I am patient. It’s no big deal to be scared and I am going to be there for them. The more they try, the stronger the swimmer they become.

Q: That’s some of the best advice I have heard. Some of our swimmers would love to get to know you outside of the water. What’s your favorite type of food?

M: I’m a big Peanut, Butter, and Jelly guy, but I definitely lean more toward Asian food.

Q: What about your favorite type of food?

M: I love the color blue. But green on Thursday.

Q: Favorite Disney movie?

M: Oh, this is hard! Um um um Toy Story!

Q: Your favorite video game?

M: NHL 2014. I’m a HUGE hockey guy.

Q: So you must play sports outside of the water then?

M: Oh yeah. Football and basketball were my games.

Q: That’s great that we have such an athletic coach working with us! Thank you for your time.

M: No problem!

Waterworks Aquatics: Turbo Interview!

April 7, 2014

Happy Sunday Everybody!
by: Alexi

Today, I had the honor of interviewing our famous mascot, TURBO! He told me lots of fun things about himself, so check it out below!

Alexi: Turbo! You are our favorite mascot here at Waterworks Irvine and we’d like to get to know you a little better. Thank you for taking the time to answer some of my questions. First things first, who is Turbo?

Turbo: Hi Alexi! The honor is all mine. As for who I am… I am the happy-go-lucky mascot for all Waterworks visitors! I am a tiger shark, which is a type of fish (yes, sharks are fish). My scientific name is Galeocerdo cuvier, but everyone calls me Turbo! I live in the open ocean, which means I have to be a great swimmer.

Alexi: That’s super interesting. Did you already know how to swim when you were born?

Turbo: Like everyone I had to learn. Guess where I learned?

Alexi: Where?

Turbo: At Waterworks!

Alexi: That’s why you’re such a great swimmer!

Turbo: Aw you’re making me blush.

Alexi: So, what is your favorite thing about Waterworks?

Turbo: Definitely the little swimmers!

Alexi: Can you tell us why?

Turbo: Sure! I love seeing children learning to swim at all ages, even the adults. You can see their eyes light up when they get a hang of something. When they are able to swim across the pool for the first time- it’s pretty neat. And it is always great coming by because of the staff too. They’re just always so happy to help everyone, making sure everything is running smoothly with a smile!

Alexi: Aw gee thanks! We definitely do love making sure everyone is having a fantastic time splashing around. And the students are pretty great too – they make it easy. J One last question.

Turbo: Okay

Alexi:  The kids love to see you and wished you could visit more often. Can we expect to see more of you soon?

Turbo: I love seeing the kids, too! I would high five every single one of them, if I could; but with 7 facilities there are so many of them it’s hard to keep up. I travel around to every location from Carlsbad to Sierra Madre and even up to San Jose! I promise to visit Irvine again very soon, so keep a look out. I’ll be the one with the orange and blue striped tail. 😉

Alexi: Thank you so much, Turbo. We look forward to it!

Turbo: Thanks, me too! Keep swimming everybody!
